Finding a Dog’s Dewclaws

A dewclaw (if a dog has them), is found high up on the inside of each front paw. Some breeds have double dewclaws (the Beauceron, Briard, Pyrenees, and Icelandic sheepdog.).  While dewclaws do not grow as quickly as toenails, they do require occasional trimming.  If you and your dog attend the Fear-free Nail Trim class, your dog will be filing his own nails (front and back paws), however, the trimming of dewclaws needs to be performed manually.  We will also teach you how to trim your dog’s dewclaws during your Fear-free Nail Trim class.
